Wharf.

Commercial

Putney Wharf is an imaginative mixed-use development of apartments, townhouses, offices, restaurants and bars located on the river Thames next to Putney Bridge. We undertook several projects for St George around the development as it neared completion. We carried out complete transformations of several of the communal areas and significant improvements were made to The Nuttery Courtyard by the importation and planting of mature trees and shrubs to replace the original planting that was not up to the clients demanding standards.

The main feature of the courtyard was a fabulous bonsai topiary pine that had to be craned in over the completed buildings. The planting went extremely well and our team carried out the works so professionally that we were asked to locate all the decking to the courtyard as well.

One of the last buildings to be completed was castle court and we were tasked with the design and build of a communal garden in the central courtyard for exclusive use by the residents and office workers.

We took inspiration from the strong lines of the surrounding architecture and conceived a complementary geometric scheme.

At the heart of the design is a water feature consisting of six large slate squares laid on a level with a hardwood decking bridge and adjacent paving. Central planters retained by low walls extend and enhance the geometry while creating an abundance of seating opportunities.

Spectacular mature beehive topiary yews and pencil conifers were sourced from Germany as specimen trees. In turn, evergreen and herbaceous planting in strong geometric lines provide contrasting leaf texture, flower and year-round interest.

The lighting of the water feature and specimen plants adds an extra dimension of dramatic appeal for night-time use.

The whole project was designed and installed by our team of Landscape Architects, project managers and skilled foremen and craftsmen.
