Private Gardens

We were invited to prepare a design proposal for a very prestigious property in an exclusive private road within metres of Hyde Park. Our team of garden designers and Landscape Architects proposed an elegant secluded roof garden on a narrow strip to the rear and side of this newly restored and modernised building. The clients brief emphasised that this roof terrace space had to be usable in all weathers and that we needed to design the perfect outdoor room. Our skilled team of project managers and garden builders installed the garden to the highest possible standards and the scheme includes some of the latest garden technology.

To gain the valuable space required to create a series of rooms, we suggested that the proposed central stairwell was avoided and replaced with a glass walk-on roof light, whilst maintaining access below for maintenance. An intricate laser-cut stainless steel grating for airflow surrounded the roof light. The remainder of the surface was finished with a high-quality hardwood timber decking.

The area was divided into two spaces, one being for comfortable lounging and the other for dining. The comfortable lounging area had the benefit of an outdoor 64” plasma TV with remote gas log effect fire.

The surrounding walls were treated with hardwood timber slats, interspersed with mirrors for their light reflective qualities as well as the illusion of creating more space. This also included one section of a mirror being used for a cascading water feature, which also carried on as a feature into the lower light well.

Bespoke made planting containers were installed throughout, with a predominantly scented evergreen planting scheme including Climbers to cover the timber slating. A fully automated irrigation system was installed to ensure the plantings’ success and reduce maintenance.

We installed a remote-controlled lighting scheme with several different moods created, which includes, up and down-lighters illuminating the perimeter screening, key plants and trees, water feature as well as the surfaces.

To ensure that the gardens could be used all year round we proposed that an electrically operated overhead canopy was installed; to cover the whole area this has transformed the space into another room that offered complete privacy to the users. Overhead heating was added to provide additional comfort. Mechanical and electrical requirements Inc. Gas, electrical cables, water etc. were run discreetly during the build, with secretly fixed access panels where required.

Needless to say, the client was delighted with the design and installation and we were delighted that the project won a Bali award and our maintenance team were awarded the annual maintenance contract.
