We were approached directly by the client and were asked to prepare design proposals for this monumental 80m2 terrace that had been paved with wall to wall bland paving. The brief was to reflect the formal grandeur of this newly refurbished and imposing building whilst still maintaining a strikingly contemporary, yet comfortable feel. Only the highest quality materials have been used throughout. Inspiration was taken from the interior decor in order to provide continuity and create a fully functional outdoor room.

The client was delighted with the scheme that was prepared and we were asked to carry out the installation. This was a particularly complicated process as no access was available through this absolutely stunning apartment; therefore, all materials had to be craned from the ground floor onto the terrace, which involved Road closure. As we were on a very tight installation schedule of 6 weeks with the necessary permissions for road closure taking up-to 8 weeks, the whole operation required a very precise and organised design team in terms of procuring all materials prior to the lift, with no room for error.

The terrace has been transformed into an all year round stunning roof garden. The ceiling above is some seven metres in height, and this has enabled us to plant a variety of mature trees in bespoke containers that provide an intimate feel. The garden has been divided up into a series of rooms for dining, comfortable lounge seating and a bar area. The specific areas are defined with hardwood decking surfaces that break up the monotony of the granite paving.

A major focal point of the terrace is a bespoke bar area that has been designed and built with integral fridge, sink unit and mixer tap. A feature wall has been created behind the bar using four backlit panels that were embossed with the outline of a winter birch tree.

Our Landscape Architects also prepared a detailed lighting design with several different lighting moods, that included, strip lighting to illuminate floor surfaces, up-lighters for plants and trees, as well as wall lights and, overhead illumination from beautifully handcrafted Moroccan lamps.

Overhead heaters provide warmth to enable the terrace to be used all year round. A computer-controlled irrigation system was installed discreetly through the base of all planters.

The transformation of the terrace was completed and we were delighted when the project won a Bali award and our maintenance team were awarded the annual maintenance contract.
