Our Clients lived in this wonderful house in the heart of Chelsea for a great number of years and then decided the time had come to completely refurbish the property, which was to include a new double basement. We were introduced to the Client by the London based LAB Architects, with whom we had successfully designed and built other projects.
The Concept
We prepared a concept design with interlocking, strong geometric shapes echoing art deco patterns, with a stunning teared bronzed rill of water wrapping itself around one side of the garden falling into a bronze curved pool.
The source of the water runs down a drystone wall that has beautiful bronzed fins installed above it to screen the condensing unit that was located to service the swimming pool below.
The main terrace has been finished and laid in a rhomboid paving pattern with each piece of limestone being individually templated.
The central seating area was constructed of drystone walling with beautiful hardwood tapering slatted seating, which wraps around an elegant bespoke bronze fire bowl that is fed by gas from the main building supply.
The Details
Key trees were chosen for their all year round interest and have been carefully located to anchor certain elements of the design as well as create natural areas for shade. The planting is in the very early stages and will ultimately develop to enhance the space, infilling and softening the stepping stones and hard landscaping generally.
The front garden and driveway consisted of new piers, art deco styled railings with bronze inlays and a very specialised vehicular access gate that retracts along a curved channel to allow independent access via the pedestrian gate at all times.
Our clients stated that we had delivered beyond their expectations. It was an absolute pleasure for us to have worked with a fabulous client and alongside Studio Indigo and Seacon Ltd to create such a wonderful garden.
