Large Private Gardens

A Luxury new build house within the exclusive St Johns Wood, London. We were not successful in securing the landscape design element first time round. However, the property was sold in 2016 to an existing client who disliked the mundane formality of what had been designed and installed. This simply consisted of two hedges in varying heights around the perimeter and a lawned area.

Architect : David Wolff

Landscape Designer : Bartholomew Landscaping

We were appointed to redesign a completely new family garden, which would provide the clients with not only a beautiful outlook visually, but one which excited the senses in terms of planting and all year round interest as well as comfortable entertaining.

Ultimately the clients wanted a functional family garden that would reflect and compliment the house.

Our new design included the planting of substantial evergreen Holme Oaks towards the rear boundary to provide privacy from overlooking properties, thus creating a more intimate space. A feature stone clad wall was also included with a central sculpture location by Michael Speller.

This gave the garden much more depth and provided a feeling of spaciousness. Large hedges were replaced by the introduction of planting borders and perimeter pathways in which to take you on a journey.

The dining area was brought into the garden and surrounded by structural box cubes interspersed with flowering planting. A green wall was used in the lower level with a beautiful handmade pot and feature tree.

The Kettal furniture collection was imported directly from Spain and consisted of a dining arrangement to seat ten comfortably and a sofa with side tables and loungers all finished in a beautiful showerproof fabric.

The front garden and main entrance were softened with the introduction of a specimen Parrotia mature tree, handmade pots from the Atelier Vierkant range with soft flowing planting that provided all-year-round interest. Existing sculptures have been relocated, and a discreet, subdued lighting and irrigation system was installed throughout the scheme.

The clients are now absolutely delighted with the finished garden.
